"To the poet, the keys of the mind lay dangling...

Lightly over the heart

Easily found

By searching fingers

To open the hearts of others"

From Joleen:

"I am an artist, an author, an illustrator, and I’ve recently found a passion for the performing arts.  My book is titled Jester Lester and the Mean Green Bean and can be found electronically at www.themeangreenbean.com  A paper version is in the works, and The Mean Green Bean emotional theater camps are in the planning stages.  I wrote Jester Lester and the Mean Green Bean using a style of poetry known as a limerick.  A limerick is a form of verse, usually very humorous, written in five line stanzas with a strict rhyme scheme of AABBA.  The first, second and fifth lines rhyme with each other while the third and fourth lines are shorter and share a different rhyme.  Once the story was finished, I then started painting the backgrounds for the pages using watercolor and acrylic on canvas board.  When the background art was complete, I photographed each panel and overlaid my text.  The next step was to build the characters in 3D, pose and light them for each scene, render them and overlay everyone onto my backgrounds.  Once I got to that point, things took a turn towards performance art, and I created The Mean Green Bean Emotional Theater.   The Emotional Theater takes the tale of Jester Lester and the Mean Green Bean and brings to life eight basic emotions through facial expressions, body language and miming.  Those emotions, in order as they appear in the book, are Sadness, Trust, Disgust, Anticipation, Anger, Fear, Surprise and Joy.  While exploring these emotions, children will learn to act with empathy.  Empathy is the ability to sense other people’s emotions, coupled with the ability to imagine what someone else might be thinking or feeling.  Children that learn to act with empathy become more compassionate citizens and leaders with the ability to take ownership of their futures."

Teller House

Lindsay Gianola is a bookbinder and artist. She will have a vendor booth in the Teller House, and also host a book-binding activity for kids 12 and under.

Check out her work here: https://www.mountainbounddesign.com/

From Lindsay:

"Mountain Bound Design was started by me, Lindsay, here in Colorado. Since I was little, I have had a strong love of art of all kinds. I've collected many blank art books, of all shapes and sizes, and decided to look into making my own... So I reached out to Denver Bookbinding, took a few of their classes, and started my own small bookbinding business.

All my materials, I purchase locally from Denver Bookbinding, and are the off-cuts, to be recycled, or tossed out, which makes me an environmentally friendly company!

I hope my books bring you as much joy and happiness they bring me in creating and personalizing them for you!"
